SVBC Invites Cities to Learn About San Mateo's Bike Share
Last week, SVBC brought together various cities' staff for a learning opportunity with City of San Mateo and Social Bicycles to discuss their new bike share program, Bay Bikes. Our goal was to share this alternate model of bike share with other cities on the Peninsula, since Bay Bikes is a different system than Bay Area Bike Share, without docking stations and with all the technology online and on the bike.
Page Mill Interim Design Ready for Next Phase
A safer, less daunting design is in the works for the Page Mill/Highway 280 intersection near Los Altos Hills and Palo Alto. Since the April 20 public workshop was held to solicit feedback on two proposed redesigns, the County Roads and Airports Department, along with its consultant team, the adjacent cities, and SVBC, have been further refining the plans.
Palo Alto Advances Nine Bike Boulevard Projects
Congratulations to Palo Alto, whose City Council voted on May 9 to approve $1.4 million in funding as well as concept plans and environmental analyses to advance the ambitious Bike Boulevard prioritization of their 2012 Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan.
Caltrain Adds Third Bike Car
Thanks to years of advocacy and the dedication of Caltrain as a bike-friendly transit system, all Caltrain train sets now have over 70 bike spaces, starting today, increasing on-board bike capacity, decreasing the chance of being bumped, and offering additional transportation options. This is a win for everyone!
Campaign update: Highway 35/Skyline Surface Quality
Last we updated you in late 2013 on Skyline Blvd., Caltrans District 4 had promised to apply a sand seal treatment on Highway 35 to address the poor surface quality resulting from a chip seal maintenance job in Fall 2012. Early in fall 2015, Caltrans completed the 22-mile sand seal project!
San Mateo County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Now Accepting Applications
The County of San Mateo has issued a call for applicants for their newly formed Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). Applications are due Friday, February 5, 2016 at 5 pm. The BPAC will advise the Board of Supervisors on policies, programs, funding, and other issues that relate to improving and increasing walking and bicycling transportation in San Mateo County. Eligible applicants are people who live in San Mateo County (either in incorporated cities or in unincorporated areas). Members will be selected to represent the interests of older adults, safe routes to schools, bicycling, and other walking/bicycling interests.
