Background on the Bike Parking Program
Concern about bike theft is a documented barrier to riding to events. Our Bike Parking program provides a solution to that problem. We create a designated, monitored area where event attendees drop off their bike for safe-keeping during the event’s duration.
We can fit 10 bikes in one car parking stall, at a fraction of the financial cost. Parking bikes instead of cars creates cleaner, quieter, less congested, and safer surroundings for all event attendees.
Our Bike Parking Program recruits volunteer corral attendants, who get experience in customer service and proactivity, access to top-tier cultural events, and great networking opportunities. Yes - we can approve your service hours!
Our team of Bike Parking Shift Supervisors are paid, part-time employees of SVBC, who manage the day-of corral operations and volunteer tasks. To apply for this position, please see our job application process here.
Event Organizers
If you’d like to host bike parking at your event, here are the basics you need to know: Our intake form is designed to reduce back-and-forth and collect all logistic information needed for successful event planning. Please review the intake form here to see what information we will need from you. If it’s your first time, we can spend time on the phone together to complete the questions and alleviate any points of confusion or concern.
Floor space needed: 8 square feet per bike (compared to 325 square feet per car parking) - recommend minimum 20’x20’ of unobstructed and flat gravel, grass, or asphalt surface.
Price: contact us for pricing.
Promo of event’s bike parking service is essential to ensure good bicyclist turnout:
SVBC promotes all events where we park bikes
We also provide a square graphic for social media to facilitate your promo of the service
We request you advertise the bike parking service alongside all information about site access and car parking
We request you advertise bike parking in your event descriptions and within the event registration process
