Not goodbye, but see you later!
Four years ago, I left behind my career as an attorney to answer the job posting in SVBC’s e-bulletin for a youth bike education coordinator and never looked back. Not a day has gone by that I didn’t reflect on how fortunate I was to have a job that fully aligned with my personal values. I’ve happily worked with thousands of kids – talking with them about the why’s and how’s of safe biking and walking, guiding them through bike skills courses, and watching their amazement as they made smoothies with our bike blender. I’ve also enjoyed leading workshops for folks interested in getting to work by bike, and organizing fun, family-friendly rides.
It would take a special opportunity for me to leave my position as SVBC’s Programs Director, and such an opportunity has arrived. Beginning this December, I will be managing the City of San Jose’s Walk & Roll Program, working with 55+ schools to increase student participation in walking and biking to school. So, while I’m sad to leave my post at SVBC, I’m excited to continue my work in the Safe Routes to School space in San Jose.
Being able to work alongside fellow SVBC staff who never lose their can-do spirit and crazy sense of humor even under pressure, has made this job full-time fun. I’m going to miss each and every one of them, even the ones who tried to make me eat healthier lunches.
Though my time has come to an end here at SVBC, I will always support the mission to “create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work or play in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.” Do you support this mission, too? My departure means that SVBC is hiring for the Programs Team! Interested? Check out the job posting for Programs Director and/or Coordinator!
My heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the SVBC members, community partners, and sponsors who have all made my time here truly rewarding. See you all out in the bike lanes!
