Bulldog Riders Lead Bike Night!
SVBC and Siena Youth Center established a ground-breaking partnership to promote bicycling as a fun, sate, and healthy mode of transportation in the North Fair Oaks Community. This partnership brings together passionate and experienced staff, youth, parents and community stakeholders. On January 26, the Bull Dog Riders, a Siena Youth Center class led by Director Rafael Avendano, kicked off their first family bike night, “Chained Together for Freedom,” which was a total success! The students led the event with support from SVBC and Siena Youth Center staff, which included bike-themed activities like the smoothie bike blender, a “Change a Tire Challenge” station, and snail races (last across the finish line wins!). The Bulldog Riders - elementary, middle, and high school students - led all aspects of event planning, such as naming and marketing the event, and managing the logistics.Part of the night’s success was the positive feedback that SVBC received from parents and community members. Many expressed that they learned a lot from the volunteer-led bike mechanic station, and enjoyed hearing about upcoming bicycling workshops for adults. The night wrapped up with raffling off a variety of bike gear, bike helmets and a new bike. SVBC would like to congratulate the Bulldog Riders and acknowledge their hard work, and the Siena Youth Center staff for an amazing community collaboration!
