By Karie Fraley, SVBC San Jose Local Team member, Every third Wednesday SVBC holds a local team meeting from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. inside their office in San Jose. Here’s a recap from our June meeting.Volunteer OpportunitiesSVBC needs volunteers for bike parking at events. Volunteering for bike parking is a great opportunity to have fun, make new friends, and get involved with the bike community. As a volunteer you may also be granted free admission to the event as well. To volunteer, find an event on our Events Calendar, then click on the Eventbrite link found in the Details box. Sign up using Eventbrite’s website.Guest PresentationGreg Justice presented a plan developed by his Sustainable Transportation Planning class at SJSU to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure surrounding SJSU. The plan would affect a half mile radius around SJSU including; San Fernando, 4th, 10th, and San Salvador streets. The plan includes:
- Better linkage from SJSU to Diridon
- Bidirectional bike lanes
- Bike lanes in parking lots
- New transit center on 5th street
- Physical barriers separating bike lanes
- Safer conditions for the mobility impaired

It’s been 12 years since the proposed sections of Winchester and Moorpark have been resurfaced, however all of the plans being proposed now include bike lanes. We were able to ask questions and give input on which of the four proposed plans looked best. Lincoln Avenue Road Diet ReportWe discussed the year long results from Lincoln Avenue road diet. Highlights include:
- 80% increase in bicycle and pedestrian traffic
- Decrease in traffic volumes from 2-12%
- Increase in food and general retail product sales

AnnouncementsBay Area Bike Share is expanding in San Jose and needs feedback from the community regarding new bike share locations in South University and Spartan-Keyes neighborhoods.
