San Jose trails keep on keepin' on

The San Jose trail system continues to make progress. From the City of San Jose:

Penitencia Creek Trail (King Road to Mabury Avenue)
Construction got underway during the week of September 14. The short 0.3 mile project will provide a better surface for persons already walking along the creek and formalize a convenient route through the area. The design anticipates future flood control work that may impact the trail. To save dollars, the project installs a less expensive hard-packed gravel surface along areas where flood control work is likely to alter the creek banks. In areas where no work is planned, a typical 12’ asphalt paved surface will be installed. For more information about this project and the trail system in general, please visit the Penitencia Creek Trail page at: http://www.sjparks.org/Trails/Penitencia/Penitencia.asp
    Trail Count 2009
Our third annual count of trail users will occur on Wednesday, September 23. A large number of volunteers are already signed up and we think we have good coverage for all count stations. But you can still have a big impact on this year’s event. Be sure to complete the on-line survey that will be posted through September 25. Data from the survey helps San Jose design and build better trails, and helps us document to grant agencies that trails are heavily used and great candidates for funding. Visit the Trail Program homepage and click on the Trail Count link in order to complete the survey on September 23 to 25. http://www.sjparks.org/Trails/
    Albertson Parkway
On August 29, community members and agency representatives met to officially reopen Albertson Parkway in south San Jose. The project converted a neglected path beneath power lines into a beautifully landscaped meandering path that leads visitors to the County’s 1500 acre Santa Teresa Park in the nearby foothills.
