The Annual Dinner is a great opportunity to meet others in Silicon Valley’s enthusiastic cycling community while supporting an organization that works to improve life for all South Bay and Peninsula residents. Our past events have hosted cycling luminaries such as 2011 Tour of California winner Chris Horner, women’s racing star Linda Jackson, and sprinting champion “Fast” Freddie Rodriguez. This year, we are thrilled to host Andy Hampsten, the first and only non-European to win the Giro d’Italia.Andy’s remarkable accomplishments include:

• • Stage 20 win as a first-year professional in the Giro d’Italia, 1985

• • Best Young Rider and 4th overall finish in his first Tour de France, 1986

• • Multiple top-tier finishes in the Tour de France, Tour de Suisse, and Giro d’Italia

• • International fame and deep respect in Italy as a result of his stunning 1985 attack on the Gavia Pass, during a blizzard, and subsequent overall first place in the Giro d’Italia

Andy’s fame in the cycling world is widespread and well deserved. We are honored to welcome him and we expect his presence to create a very strong audience draw.In addition to the celebrity appeal of Andy, the Fourth Annual Dinner will take the opportunity to acknowledge those in the community whose contributions to SVBC have had an unparalleled impact on our ability to promote bicycling. The accolades will include:

• • Ellen Fletcher Volunteer Award – named after one of SVBC’s founders and living bicycle advocacy legend, the Ellen Fletcher Volunteer Award goes to the member of the community who most personifies Ellen’s inherent qualities of dedication to cycling, community engagement, and do-it-yourself spirit.

• • Corporate cycling acknowledgement – In Silicon Valley, corporate employers are one of the most effective catalysts for community engagement. Each year, SVBC recognizes an employer who supported our efforts and promoted cycling among its workforce and in the community at large.

SVBC is foremost a coalition. As such, we rely on community engagement to spread our message and effect change in our area. Whether our partners are community advocates making waves in their own neighborhood by encouraging their neighbors to ditch the car for a trip to the store, or international firms who offer showers and support to their bike-commuting employees, SVBC values and depends on their efforts.
