SVBC and San Jose Conservation Corps Partner Again for Second Round of Creek Cleanups

Our Next Wheels and Waterways Event: Bike to the Bay!

In July, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition hosted a Wheels & Waterways ride, the eighth event in a 3-year, 12-ride series aimed at providing fun riding opportunities for bicyclists of all abilities, while supporting a healthy creek trails network. The following post details the July 22nd Wheels & Waterways ride, which continued a successful partnership between SVBC and the SJ Conservation Corps.

The series is funded by Valley Water’s Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program, and will use bike rides and trash cleanup events to showcase water infrastructure in Santa Clara County to people in the bike community.

SVBC’s social rides are hosted to provide fun opportunities for bicyclists of all abilities to build confidence in riding for everyday use. Mark your calendars for our next Wheels and Waterways ride in partnership with Santa Clara County Parks, and the office of County Supervisor Otto Lee - Bike to the Bay 2023!

An Exciting Partnership - Time to Work

In 2023, San José Conservation Corps and Charter School (SJCC) + Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) have found multiple ways to partner together.

Together, the groups have hosted two group bike rides that teach bike coalition supporters a slice of the nitty-gritty work of litter abatement on the Guadalupe River Trail in San José.

Shelley pulls trash on her hand-made trailer gifted to her by Matt Bartlett. On this ride, SVBC and SJCC removed almost 2000 pounds from the banks of the Guadalupe River!

Nearly a dozen volunteers met SVBC bright and early to beautify the San Jose community. Among these community members were two representative from the Office of Councilmember Omar Torres.

SVBC and SJCC have been working together to clean up our community by bike for the past six months. The collaboration aligns with SVBC’s mission to build healthier and more just communities by bike!

Summit Presentations - Time to Learn

Additionally, Director of Social Enterprise Operations Edgar Echevarria represented the San José Conservation Corps at the 13th annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit, hosted in Mountain View.

Edgar Echevarria joined the Bike Summit Pecha-Kucha to discuss his work in the SJCC Trail Safety Porgram.

Your Next Chance to Get Involved:

We will be back with just two more creek cleanups in 2024 - if your organization does work related to or taking place along a waterway in Santa Clara County, you’re invited to contact us for collaboration opportunities.
