Member Spotlight: Raayan Mohtashemi

Raayan Mohtashemi has moved on to a new role as a California State Senate legislative aide in Sacramento.

But he left a big mark in San Mateo, as a community and bike advocate of great energy and impact.

See “Raayan’s Farewell Taco Tour” — to enjoy a four-minute tribute video his friends and colleagues made while taking him on a celebratory tour through downtown San Mateo taquerias.

While with SVBC and the Move San Mateo local bike advocacy team, Raayan was credited with accomplishments that helped to more than double the team size, push for the city’s North Central Bike Lanes project through installation, and advocate for staffing for the Safe Routes to Schools program, recalls Heather Wolnick, an SVBC community organizer.

Strong leadership remains in place. Max Mautner and Bry Myers were already co-leads with Raayan, and Sean Lacson has been added.

His former team colleagues in San Mateo, in the video, reflect fondly, wish him well, and say they look forward to hearing of his accomplishments in Sacramento.

“He brings the fire very eloquently and I imagine that he is going to keep making great change,” says Noelle Langmack, who had worked with Raayan on housing initiatives in San Mateo.
