I Don't Know Where To Ride

‘I don’t know where to ride’ is a statement we hear frequently from new and beginner riders. Falling on the ears of seasoned riders, this statement may produce a response like - ‘you can ride almost anywhere - go explore!’ For new riders, this is an overly simplistic reply to a legitimate dilemma. With this in mind, we are curating bike routes that will hopefully remove one of the barriers to riding - route planning. We are also looking for volunteers who are interested in helping add to our library of bike routes (see bottom).

In building these routes, we’ve sought spaces and places that will not only be interesting and scenic to visit, but also user friendly routes tailored for newer riders. We’ve done our best to utilize bike lanes, trails and residential areas where traffic is calmer. Distances span between 2-14 miles and include libraries, parks, areas of cultural interest, and of course, treat stops (don’t forget to reward yourself after your hard work!). You’ll find flat rides in areas from Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Jose, Santa Clara, Mountain View and more!

We’re sharing these rides using Ride Spot. We selected Ride Spot because the app is free and will allow you to follow the routes with on-screen navigation and/or audible turn-by-turn directions. Ride Spot also allows us to create a story by providing pictures and commentary of things you’ll experience along the way. It’s been a lot of fun for us to begin building these and we hope you’ll enjoy some new areas.

Ride Spot Registration, Instructions and Routes
You'll find everything you need to know to begin this adventure on SVBC's Routes, Classes and Social Rides page.

Additionally, we’re looking for volunteers to help add to our ride collection. If you are interested, please contact programs@bikesiliconvalley.org to get started. In particular, we are interested in suggestions for locations, scenic loop routes (under 15 miles), and areas of cultural/historical interest. We’d love to hear from you and we welcome your input on ways to make these rides diverse and accessible to all users.

Please share this information with those who may be interested or are looking for a new adventure! You can also share the link to our Resources page: https://bikesiliconvalley.org//resources/routes-classes-and-social-rides

For a review of safety tips for road riding, see our ‘Getting Started’ Resource page.

Special thanks to the County of Santa Clara for sponsoring SVBC to generate these rides.
