Pedal2Health Rolls Out!
And they’re off!Last weekend, SVBC’s Programs Team launched its Pedal2Health Initiative with its first event of the year. The program kicked off at Villa Monterey Apartments in South San José with a turnout of more than 30 enthusiastic residents. Many stayed for the entire event, from morning through afternoon, and twenty gathered for a zesty bike ride to and from the Coyote Creek trail.Children and adults across ages hung around in what truly became a community affair: chatting about all things bike-y, sharing stories in no fewer than three languages, lining up for free bicycle tune-ups, and playing on the grass and empty parking spaces between activities and educational pieces.Families and individuals, parents and kiddos–all involved had a fantastic time and are eagerly awaiting their next chance to hit the streets with P2H. We’re thrilled to join your community, Villa Monterey!Pedal2Health, P2H, is a program that aims to increase ridership, build safe cycling habits, and increase access to bikeability in low-income communities by bringing free supplies and services to residents in affordable housing developments throughout San José. Program participants receive helmets and other ride-related gear, educational workshops, bike repair, guided neighborhood rides, food, and the opportunity to, as the year progresses, build and earn their own bicycle. SVBC thanks El Camino Hospital for their generous financial support of this program.
