At Pedal2Health events in affordable-housing communities, the number one barrier limiting resident participation stems from residents not owning a bike. A few reasons may include lack of access to bikes and secure bike storage, lack of safe bike infrastructure in their neighborhoods, and shifting car culture towards bike culture. We recently reached out to our friends at Lime, local leaders in the bike share world with a fleet of dockless bike and pedal-assisted bikes (in addition to e-scooters), to help us tackle the first issue of accessibility. We were thrilled Lime answered the call and offered their support at a recent event at Casa Real Apartments in East San Jose! Lime promptly dropped off a fleet of 15 bikes and 3 pedal-assisted electric bikes before the event began. Councilmember Tam Nguyen stopped by to greet community members and was delighted to see Lime's involvement and support. Residents were eager to learn about Lime's equity program and take electric bikes out for a safe ride around the neighborhood. A special thank you to EV and Raymond from South Bay's team for helping to coordinate drop off and pick up of a large fleet of bikes!Bike share companies include an equity program to ensure all members of the community are being served. For example, Ford GoBike/Motivate and TransForm launched Bike Share for All early last Fall. In addition to SF Bike Coalition and Bike East Bay, SVBC led outreach on the ground for Bike Share for All program. There is an equal commitment from Lime to provide mobility for all which is why they've created Lime Access. Lime Access is an affordable way to use Lime in your city. Community members can pay for the membership of 100 rides for $5 at a PayNearMe location which supports a text-to-unlock feature, both of which promote equitable mobility by removing the barrier of smartphone and credit card ownership.

"We believe in a mobility solution that is shared, affordable and accessible. Transportation is a critical link to opportunity, connecting people to jobs, schools, housing, healthcare, grocery stores and more. When we think about livability and mobility, we do not assume that everyone has equal access to the streets. In that spirit, we are building Lime from a shared value approach that reconnects company success with social progress."

To qualify for Lime Access, an individual simply needs to demonstrate qualification or participation in any state or federally-run assistance program. Lime Access members can purchase 100 rides on our LimeBike pedal bikes for just $5. To join Lime Access, you can pay using cash at one of PayNearMe's 27,000+ retail locations. To learn more about Lime's work in the community, visit https://www.limebike.com/community-impact.
