San Mateo County Round-Up

Sometimes my meeting schedule necessitates beautiful bike rides through San Mateo County. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of biking from Hillsdale Caltrain to Redwood Shores, then along the Bay Trail between Redwood Shores through Docktown to Redwood City. It was a gorgeous day and I got to see some of the unique bike infrastructure and sights that make biking here such a pleasure (see map and photo above). Want to know what's going on around San Mateo County and in your city? Find it here.San Mateo County Bike & Pedestrian Count, September 12-18San Mateo County is participating in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project for the second year in a row. The Office of Sustainability is conducting a Bike & Pedestrian Count throughout San Mateo County the week of September 12th – 18th. They are in need of volunteer counters. They have as many as 50 locations throughout the County where volunteer shifts will be available on weekdays and weekends. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this form. Direct any questions to bikepedcountsmc@gmail.com. Documenting how many people are walking and bicycling is the first step to increasing and improving these modes. This nationwide effort follows a standardized protocol and the resulting data can be used by planners and decision-makers to guide investment decisions around sustainable transportation options.BelmontBelmont’s draft Comprehensive Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan will be taken to the Parks & Recreation Commission on October 5 at 7 pm before being approved by Council. The draft is not yet public, but stay tuned so that you can provide comments in writing or in person. We are particularly interested in the inclusion of Old County Road in the bike plan.Belmont is also working on their Draft General Plan, Draft Belmont Village Specific Plan, and Draft Climate Action Plan. The Planning Commission will hold a Scoping Session for the Environment Impact Report on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, 7 pm at Belmont City Council Chambers, 1 Twin Pines Lane, Belmont, CA 94002. Click here to download and read the EIR.Menlo ParkMenlo Park’s General Plan update process is called ConnectMenlo and will guide future development, land uses, and transportation in the city. As part of the ConnectMenlo update, the City will be examining land uses and development standards for the M-2 zoning area, as well as mobility issues citywide. They will hold an Open House on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, 7 – 9 pm at City Council Chambers, 701 Laurel St., Menlo Park, CA 94025.MillbraeMillbrae is updating their General Plan. City Council will hold a joint meeting for a General Plan Study Session with the Planning Commission on Tuesday, September 5 from 6:30-8:30 pm at Chetcuti Community Room, 450 Poplar Avenue, Millbrae, California 94030.Redwood CityRedwood City kicked off its’ El Camino Real Corridor Plan at the end of July with the Citizens’ Advisory Group. The plan will improve streetscapes to promote walking, transit, biking, and economic development; consolidate zoning districts for consistency; and will not increase existing height limits or allowable densities/intensities. The next meeting will be in October.
