SVBC Endorses Santa Clara County Parks Park Charter Fund, Measure A

In January 2016, the SVBC Policy Advisory Committee approved a request to endorse the Santa Clara County Parks Park Charter Fund, Measure A, which will be on the ballot in June 2016.The Santa Clara County Parks Charter Fund has provided sustainable funding for the county’s park system since 1972. It is not a new tax, but a renewal, allowing Santa Clara County Parks to operate and maintain parkland throughout the county and develop new parks and trails. This Fund has played an important role in offering biking opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. It has contributed over $30 million to creek-side trail alignments in the City of San Jose over the past two decades. Santa Clara County Parks provide miles of trails available to mountain bikers, Hellyer Park is home to the velodrome, and the department is working in partnership with Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers to build a mountain bike park at Sanborn County Park. Parks and trails are a great resource for people and children to learn how to ride a bike and ride recreationally. This funding will also help the Department lead the Countywide Trail Master Plan, which will update a regional trail network. SVBC will be at the table to help develop those plans and ensure a broad network for all ages and abilities. We support the Park Charter Fund amendments and renewal.See their full website and facebook page.
