Alliance for biking and walking retreat

I spent Sunday through Wednesday at the Alliance for Biking and Walking executive leadership retreat. The Alliance supports groups like SVBC across the country, and works with Bikes Belong, America Bikes, and League of American Bicyclists on national bicycling priorities.

Roughing it.

They pulled 40 or so executives together from organizations like SVBC this weekend to discuss the national bike/ped movement. We discussed priorities at the national, state, and local levels--sharing best practices and re-inspiring ourselves.

The retreat was at a ranch in Wyoming, 2.5 hours from the Jackson Hole airport--certainly the first professional retreat I've attended in such an out of the way place. But the historic Thunderhead Ranch is where the Alliance was created nearly 20 years ago by 15 bike/ped advocates just getting our movement going. It was a delight to be there sharing in the campfire stories of the movement.

And yes, there were smores and horseback rides.
