Patagonia Bike to Work Week

At Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, we have been very fortunate to not only have the support of great corporate sponsors that allow us to fund programs such as Bike to Work Day, Share the Road campaigns, bicycle education, and other advocacy efforts, but we also receive tremendous support from several local merchants that want to see bicycling grown in Silicon Valley and the Peninsula. From Sports Basement Sunnyvale who allow us to utilize their space for multiple Bike to Work Day activities; to Palo Alto Bicycles who are always willing to support our efforts and offer their space for our annual Winter Party; to Hobee’s who are always donating their great food and coffee cake for our events; and to Chain Reaction Bicycles, Bicycle Outfitters, Calmar Bicycles and many other bike shops that offer discounts to SVBC members.

Recently, we were delighted to be selected by Patagonia of Palo Alto to receive the proceeds from their friendly Bike to Work Week Challenge. Patagonia selected SVBC as the recipient of their Bike to Work Week Grant which would donate one dollar for each mile their employees rode from June 5 through June 11. We also had the opportunity to come out to their store on Friday, June 11 and talk to their customers about who we are, what we do and why we do it. It was great to see how motivated and enthusiastic everyone at the store was about the challenge – most of their employees’ commutes were over 10 miles each way. In the end, Patagonia Palo Alto employees rode over 500 miles. Congratulations, and thanks for your support!
