Our friends at Stanford University have earned the top honor in the League of American Bicyclists' first ever round of Bicycle Friendly University designation! Stanford, which has partnered with SVBC in the past on initiatives like our Share the Road campaign, is the only university to earn Platinum designation from the League.

Among Stanford's many achievements in promoting bikes are a daily ridership of 13,000 cyclists - over 21% of the university community, bike citation diversion classes for cyclists who get ticketed, and free bike safety classes twice a month.

From Stanford's The Dish:

ARIADNE SCOTT, the university’s bicycle program coordinator, credited the entire campus for the honor, particularly the Department of Public Safety and the campus planning office, without whom, she said, the designation may not have happened. “We’re honored to receive this,” said Scott said of the award. “We want Stanford to leave a legacy for alternative transportation.”

Congratulations to Stanford for being recognized for its thorough and ongoing efforts to boost cycling. All that remains to be done is getting those 13,000 cyclists signed up as members of SVBC!
