Bicycle sharing and infrastructure - key planning issues in 2010

bikelanesRecently bike sharing programs have been launched in Washington, D.C., Montreal, Denver, and Minneapolis. Soon we will also see bike share programs in Boston, San Francisco, New York and yes even in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

In Santa Clara County VTA has allocated funds for a pilot project around Diridon Station and the downtown business area. In San Mateo County expect to see a pilot system in downtown Redwood City.

Other planning issues in 2010:

  1. Cash-Strapped Cities, States - and Planning Departments
  2. Smart Systems for Cities
  3. The High Cost of No-Longer-Free Parking
  4. Smaller Homes, Renting and Generation Y
  5. China Ascendant
  6. Landscape Urbanism vs. New Urbanism
