Caltrain Determines Future Bike Car Design
Almost two years ago, our work and your voices convinced the Caltrain Joint Powers Board to increase future bike capacity with train electrification (due for 2021). Caltrain has now selected a final car design for the future train sets, and the agency's goals to increase human and bike capacity will be met with an increased number of trains per hour. Read on for our take about the decisions and the process.
Get a Sneak Peek and Vote on Future Caltrain Bike Cars at the Silicon Valley Bicycle Summit, August 8
Caltrain staff needs YOUR help figuring out what the future bike cars will look like. At the Silicon Valley Bike Summit, August 8, you can not only see a presentation from Caltrain staff, Lori Low, on the types of bike accommodation the agency is looking at but there will also be a first look demonstration of the different on-board bike options in the parking lot next to the bike valet for you to try out. Lori’s presentation will be one of the breakouts, at 11:35 am in the Saturn Room.
Caltrain Seeking Volunteers to Join Bicycle Advisory Committee
Caltrain is currently accepting applications for its Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC), an advisory body comprised of nine volunteers from the three counties served by the rail agency. The BAC serves as the primary venue for the interests and perspectives of bicyclists to be integrated into the Caltrain planning process. This group brings new ideas for discussion and helps Caltrain guide its future investments.
Caltrain Adds Third Bike Car
Thanks to years of advocacy and the dedication of Caltrain as a bike-friendly transit system, all Caltrain train sets now have over 70 bike spaces, starting today, increasing on-board bike capacity, decreasing the chance of being bumped, and offering additional transportation options. This is a win for everyone!
Results of SVBC Survey on Caltrain Use
We recently partnered with San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to gather your thoughts on our work towards Caltrain’s bike-friendly future through on online survey. A huge thank you to everyone who took their survey and provided feedback! Following a successful campaign [link] to increase bike capacity on future electrified Caltrain trains (coming 2020) and secure $3 million in funding for bike parking at stations, we wanted to hear from you on what improvements would help make accessing Caltrain as easy and convenient as possible for you. The results of this survey will give us a data-driven approach to our future Caltrain advocacy work and help us accurately communicate the needs of our members to Caltrain.
