Paving the Way for Change: Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Live in Peace Unite for Bike Advocacy

Live in Peace Team after a great ride!

Are you a resident of East Palo Alto? Do you know someone in the community? Please help us create safer streets by taking (or sharing) EPA Needs Assessment Survey!

In a collaborative initiative, SVBC and Live in Peace (LIP) have joined forces to champion bike infrastructure and bike safety in the neighborhoods of East Palo Alto (EPA). The collaboration aims to address the evolving needs of the community, promoting more accessible transportation alternatives and creating a bike-friendly community. SVBC and LIP are starting this exciting partnership by conducting a community needs assessment, a strategic tool that will guide advocacy efforts and ensure that the initiatives align with the unique preferences of East Palo Alto residents.

What is a Needs Assessment?

A “needs assessment” is a process of evaluating and identifying the gaps between the current state of the city and the desired future state within a community. In the context of SVBC and Live in Peace, this assessment will delve into the specific challenges faced by residents of East Palo Alto, considering factors such as safety concerns, accessibility, and the current state of buildings and roads. By engaging with the community through this survey, our organizations will gain invaluable insights into the aspirations and obstacles of EPA residents. This data-driven approach will lay the foundation for targeted and effective advocacy, ensuring that the initiatives launched by the collaboration align closely with the genuine needs of the community.

SVBC and LIP’s collaboration is committed to being guided by the community’s needs, principally by the long-standing leadership of Live In Peace in the development of programs and resources for the youth of East Palo Alto.

BY THE WAY – SVBC and LIP will have our first workshop covering Advocacy 101 in April 30th. Come learn about how you too can make a change in your community.  To learn more and get involved please register here.
