Written by Carmen Lynaugh, City of Campbell BPAC Chair

San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail:  Campbell City Council at their August 21, 2018 approved the alignment for Reaches 1 & 2, and approved moving forward with completing the environmental assessment including CEQA and preliminary design for only these reaches. The approved alignment for Reaches 1 & 2 is along the top of bank of San Tomas Creek between Westmont Ave. and San Tomas Aquino Road (bend).  Staff is working on preliminary design and environmental documents. On June 30, 2020 the public review period was comleted on the Draft Environmental Documents (IS & MND),  the comments are being reviewed and responses prepared to go to City Council. (No date has been set)

Dell Avenue Bike Lane/Bike Route Project:  Staff has secured TDA funding to install bike lanes and sharrows on Dell Avenue between East Sunnyoaks Ave. and Knowles Dr. and on Hacienda Ave. between Winchester Blvd. and Dell. The work will consist of installing bike lanes where the street width allows for their installation and sharrows where the width is insufficient to support a bike lane.  Additional signage will be installed to inform drivers of the new installation and to educate them as to “Share the Road”. This project has been completed.  Also Los Gatos has installed bike lanes on Knowles Drive starting at Dell Ave.

Harriet Avenue Traffic Calming Project: This project will include the installation of speed humps; bulb-out sidewalks and a pedestrian hybrid beacons system at McCoy Ave. The project will also include green bike lanes with painted buffer marks. The project was bid and awarded.  This project is complete and average speed vehicle speeds have been reduced and will promote more bicycle use.

Winchester Boulevard Overlay Project: The work limits on Winchester Boulevard are from the northern city limit line (approximately 171 feet north of Rosemary Lane) to the southern city limit line (at the intersection of Knowles Drive). The work will consist of resurface approximately 2.5 miles of pavement, upgrade all curb ramps to current ADA standards, and will have minor traffic signal work done. The work will also include the installation of bike lanes where sufficient room is existing and sharrows in other sections.  The work is currently underway and should be complete by the end of October, 2020.
