Standing in Solidarity

Black lives matter.

We grieve for the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and the thousands of other lives lost to racism and anti-Blackness. Our hearts go out to their families and everyone who grieves for them.

SVBC stands in solidarity with the people who are protesting against racism, white supremacy, and police violence.

We acknowledge that while we are committed to being an antiracist organization, we have more learning and growth to do. We will use our platform to amplify Black voices and organizations that are fighting systemic racism and police violence by sharing their educational articles and resources, especially those that focus on active allyship. We will keep listening and learning, and we will not leave this moment behind.

If you can afford to, we encourage you to donate to organizations fighting white supremacy and police brutality, such as:

#BlackLivesMatter #SayTheirNames

First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice... Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will.

–Martin Luther King, Jr.
