San Jose Bike Issues Forum

10 miles of enhanced bike lanes landed ALL AT ONCE in Downtown San Jose a little over a year ago. If you’ve been downtown, you’ve seen it - the green bollards and parking protected bike lanes. This is just one example of a City that is taking seriously its goal to have no more than 40% of folks driving around in cars by 2040. This is just the start for San Jose though. The City has grand plans to do much more and SVBC is hosting a conversation with the folks who are in charge. On July 13th, 6pm, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition will host two San Jose Department of Transportation staff, Nick Danty (Transportation Specialist) and Jesse Mintz-Roth (Vision Zero) in a conversation about San Jose’s efforts to meet these goals through a new bike plan as well as ongoing safety improvements. You can register here. Based on feedback from our last zoom forum, this will be a quick hour long forum where we will:

  • Hear a brief 5 minute overview from Jesse and Nick on the San Jose Bike Plan and San Jose’s Vision Zero efforts.

  • Field questions from you submitted in advance and real time via the chatbox for 30 minutes. To submit questions in advance, please email Sandhya@bikesiliconvalley.org.

  • Break into small zoom rooms for more intimate conversations with transportation experts and you.

The goals of this program are to make sure folks are informed and inspired to get more involved in keeping San Jose on track to meet its mode shift goals. To facilitate more constructive conversation, please feel free to watch the presentation on San Jose’s Bike Plan and to read up on the Vision Zero Plan next steps. You can do so here and here. Also, if you are not already a member of SVBC, please join and support the only nonprofit covering San Mateo and Santa Clara County whose job it is to improve the community, economy and environment through the everyday use of the bicycle. We can’t do this work without your support.
