Event Coordinator

If yes, you might be the perfect candidate for SVBC’s Event Coordinator!Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) is a non-profit membership-based organization that seeks to create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work, or play in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Our overriding goal is to have 10% of trips taken by bicycle by 2025.We’re extraordinarily proud of the impact we’ve had over the past ten years in improving local infrastructure and normalizing bicycling for transportation. And we’re passionate about how much more we can do to solve challenging local and global issues through the use of the bicycle.The OpportunityYou’ll coordinate events designed to encourage people to try bicycle commuting for the first time, bring together leaders in active transportation to move our issues forward, and inspire supporters to ensure we have the financial resources we need to be successful. You’ll manage dozens of staff and volunteers to execute events with excellence and joy. And you’ll move us toward our big picture goals by attending to details with a clockmaker’s precision.The TeamYou’ll join a team of ten people that are passionate about moving swiftly toward our goals in a manner consistent with our principles. We invest a great deal of time in strengthening relationships and building a high-trust environment where feedback in all directions is welcomed as an opportunity to learn. And in our downtime, we’re often discussing various social justice issues or planning the next office prank.You’ll join the Development & Engagement Team which is responsible for ensuring that: a) SVBC has the resources it needs to accomplish its goals; and b) members and supporters are aware of and inspired to participate in opportunities to advance SVBC’s goals through contributions of time, talent, or treasure.The Skill Set

  • Extremely detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to track and execute on important information coming at you from various sources.
  • Manage time effectively, identifying priorities among competing demands and never surprised by a deadline.
  • Calm, cool, and kind even in the lead up to stressful events and in the midst of tense moments.
  • Able to nurture and maintain relationships with valued partners with an eye towards always expanding our pool of supporters.
  • Love figuring out how to find, motivate, and retain volunteers and make it as easy as possible for them to participate and do jobs that are a fit for their skill set and interests.
  • Excited about taking on a variety of events comprised of every possible moving part an event planner has dreamed of. Silent & live auctions, paddle raise, awards ceremony, hundreds of Bike to Work Day hosts to train, coordinate and support, schwag bag stuffing parties, catering, and multiple panels of speakers…the only thing our events don’t have is a puppet show!
  • Familiar with or able to quickly pick up Salesforce, Adobe Illustrator, and other tech tools.
  • Experience managing events involving 100+ people, and a lot of moving parts.
  • Have ideas to make our events even better!

The EventsSVBC organizes three main events each year along with smaller parties, including:Bike to Work Day, May: The goal of BTWD is to get new people riding bikes so they can kick-start a habit they’ll retain throughout the year. The day involves recruiting and coordinating 100 energizer stations throughout Santa Clara County, overseeing the design of marketing materials, securing encroachment permits, organizing t-shirt sales, coordinating data collection like ridership counts, provide messaging and materials to San Mateo County events, and other random tasks. The organization also oversees the 9-County Bay Area Bike to Work Day including staffing and supporting the Technical Advisory Committee and managing the Regional Bike to Work Day Project Manager.Annual Dinner, October: This is a typical fundraising dinner of 300+ attendees that involves a silent and live auction, securing auction items, negotiating venue contract, working with catering and A/V, helping to staff a dinner planning committee, and working closely with the Director of Development to meet fundraising goalsBike Summit, August: This one-day conference attracts city staff, elected officials, business leaders and advocates to spend a day learning about how to get more bike infrastructure built in Silicon Valley. It consists of a keynote speaker, break-out sessions in multiple rooms, and meals throughout the day. Associated tasks include promotion, catering, on-site logistics, and managing volunteers.Salary and Benefits: Annual salary starting at $55,000 and dependent upon experience.
