Pictures Paint a Thousand Words, and Inspire Group Rides
You may have noticed the various murals popping up on buildings throughout San Jose. Many were created by local and international artists, brought here by POW! WOW! San Jose to share their beautiful visions and bring attention to the various communities who make our city a wonderful place to live, work and play.On Sunday, October 28, SVBC and San Jose Bike Party partnered with POW! WOW! to lead The Mural Ride – ten miles of cruising alongside music bikes while chatting with old friends and new acquaintances, all while viewing the newest mural installations. There were over 200 riders, using bikes, scooters and rollerskates to participate. The ride took off from The Alameda Artworks and made stops along the route to see murals painted in various styles – anime, abstract, whimsical, and street, just to name a few. At several stops, the artists were available to discuss their inspiration and background. Empire Studios in Japantown featured a gallery of several murals. There are so many murals in San Jose that we couldn’t stop at each and every one during the 3-hour tour – a nice “problem” to have (since there’s no such thing as “too much art”).The Mexican Heritage Plaza served as the grand finale, where the Dia de Los Muertos celebration was in full effect. Many chatted about past Mural Rides and clamored for future tours, so if you missed this one, be sure to check back regularly to learn about future fun rides like this!
