Bicyclist Killed in Sunnyvale Saturday

We are saddened to learn of the recent death of a person biking on Saturday in Sunnyvale near Central Expressway and Pajaro Avenue. We express our heartfelt condolences to the person’s friends and family. The collision was a hit and run. Police are asking for the public’s help to find the suspected driver of a red or maroon 2004-06 Toyota Sienna minivan, with front windshield and front fender damage. Anyone who has information or witnessed the collision can call the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety at 408-730-7128. This is at least the second death of a person biking in Sunnyvale this year due to a collision with a vehicle. The first was the death of a man biking on Caribbean Drive in February after the driver of a big-rig collided with him. SVBC worked with the city, local businesses, and advocates to make improvements to the bicycle facilities on that stretch of Caribbean and we are continuing to work with Sunnyvale on the city’s bike and pedestrian plan update and El Camino Real Corridor Plan.We urge the City of Sunnyvale to continue to prioritize safety and Vision Zero, the goal to have zero traffic deaths and major injuries, as they work on these upcoming plans that impact how people move around in Sunnyvale.
