Promoting Bike Safety with Pedal2Health
Pedal2Health program is thrilled to continue strengthening relationships with San Jose’s district representatives and law enforcement when leading bike safety workshops and bike rides in Vision Zero corridors for increased support for safe biking practices. Recently, District 7 Councilmember Tam Nguyen led a group of residents on a ride in Seven Trees Neighborhood with Deputy District Attorney, HaNhi Tran cheering residents on. Residents rode to Sylvandale Middle School and were met by Principal Amber Andrade with cheers and cold water! Perfect for the hot day! Another important partnership with Community Cycles of CA has developed with Community Cycles providing mobile bike repair to affordable housing residents. Last Saturday, an impressive 29 bikes were repaired by staff and volunteers. Thank you, Community Cycles!
At Valley Palms Apartments in Lanai/Waverly neighborhood, SVBC collaborated with Santa Clara County Probation Department and San Jose Police Department due to a neighborhood that has been historically a hotspot for gang activity and violence. Residents were thrilled to strap on Kali Protectives helmets and enjoyed learning a safe bike route to their elementary school at Katherine Smith. Read on about how Valley Palms Neighborhood Association's big WIN in demanding for pedestrian and bike safety in their neighborhood. Thank you to everyone, for your support and commitment to safe biking in low-income communities. Special thanks to El Camino Hospital Community Benefit Program for your support! Let's keep this going!
