Bikes make summer more fun for 100 youth
This summer, for the third year in a row, SVBC partnered with City of San Jose community centers and libraries to deliver fun, engaging, and educational bicycling workshops to youth throughout the city. Over 100 youth gained knowledge and confidence as they learned essential bike riding skills through instruction, fun games, bicycle rodeos, maintenance workshops, and rides. Several CHP officers also participated in some workshops helping us teach essential traffic safety skills as well as leading bike rides.Through this program, we were also able to repair 36 bikes with the help of San Jose Bike Clinic and Bay Area Bike Mobile mechanics. Additionally, 32 helmets and 6 bicycles were donated to youth and adults. We would like to thank the City of San Jose’s Safe Summer Initiatives program for funding these workshops that kept youth active and engaged through the summer.
