VTA Board Approves Sales Tax for November Ballot

Last Thursday, June 2, the VTA Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve a staff recommendation to place a transportation sales tax on the November. The tax, which SVBC has been helping to shape for two years, will fund a variety of transportation projects, including BART Phase II, Caltrain improvements, highway interchanges, expressway projects, bus service, and bike and pedestrian projects. Importantly, VTA staff will work with the organization's Technical Advisory Committee and stakeholders like SVBC to develop complete streets guidelines, which will promote the inclusion of quality bicycle and pedestrian facilities in roadway projects funded through the tax. This happy result came after years of work with the community and interested groups like the business, labor, and environmental communities. Many SVBC members wrote emails to the VTA Board, participated in workshops, and showed up Thursday night to speak. Thank you for your support! The Silicon Valley Business Journal has more details on the vote.
