Ask the candidates: Larry Moody

It's election season again, and SVBC has been working with our local teams to prepare questions for candidates running for office in our area. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, SVBC cannot and does not endorse any candidate, but we can ask them for their thoughts on promoting the bike for everyday use and share the answers.

Our San Mateo County Committee reached out to candidates running for city, county, and state offices. The responses will be published as they are received.

From Larry Moody, candidate for East Palo Alto City Council:

1. Where do you see bikes fitting into the overall transportation plan?

I strongly support making bike lanes, public lanes and walking trails a part of the unique culture of East Palo Alto. The City has been very responsive to the community's request to always consider bike lane and walking trails in the development plans.

2. If elected, what are three things that you would do to improve cycling opportunities for your constituents?

As a community leader who has participated in many of the focus group discussions, if elected I will continue advocating for Bikes and walking trails; continue supporting safe streets to schools projects in conjunction with Ravenswood School Distict; and work with local business and our retail center to assit in providing bike rakes in a safe/secure area to encourage bike riders to shop locally.

3. What have you done or worked on in the past that shows your record of being involved in bicycle, active transportation, or road/trail improvement campaigns?

I visited a program in San Francisco where formerly incarcerated and high school drop out were involved in a social enterprise project where they repaired old/donated bikes for resale, that would be helpful endeavor. For years I served as a volunteer/community advocate for major kanes bike repair program that was located on the campus of the East Palo Alto Charter School.I was responsible for recruiting volunteers and youth to assist with providfing Free bike repair for local residents. I also served on the Sam Trans Citizen Advisory Commission,where we approved a city wide shuttle program for East Palo Alto.

4. With dedicated funding for cycling projects under fire on the regional, state, and federal level, what would you do to keep those dollars flowing?

I would continue to work with County and State official to monitor Federal programs that could fit with our community.
