New hires round out SR2S team

Please help me welcome the newest additions to SVBC's Safe Routes to School program team, Ashley Hernandez and Megan Melack! They will be working with Ernesto to strengthen and expand our youth bike education efforts. They are both passionate about bicycles and working with youth. We're so happy to have them!

Ashley Hernandez
Ashley is a passionate mountain biker who graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo with a degree in Liberal Studies. She wanted to combine her two passions, teaching and bicycling, and is now our Safe Routes to School Program Coordinator where she helps children learn about bike safety. It is her goal to get more youth involved in outdoor activities and encourage the bicycle as a safe means of transportation and recreation.

Megan Melack
With a forest and meadow as her backyard, Megan grew up riding the dirt. However, it wasn’t until college where she really fell in love with the bicycle when she joined the UC Santa Cruz cycling team. Once she started racing both mountain and road bikes, she was hooked. Bicycling became an important element of her daily life. Her passion for bikes propelled her to work with Project Bike Trip, a youth bicycle education non-profit in Santa Cruz. She also interned with Ecology Action in the Transportation Division organizing Bike to Work Week. Megan joined SVBC in 2012 as a Program Coordinator for Safe Routes to School. She hopes to continue to spread her love for bikes as a tool for health, sustainability, and overall life satisfaction.
