A Bike to Work Day to remember!

Although I’ve ridden on Bike to Work Day for the past five years, Thursday was my first time behind the table, passing out coffee cake, bagels, and bananas to all of my fellow cyclists. I was posted at the California Avenue Energizer Station, right near the Caltrain station, so we had lots of visitors, including quite a few of my neighbors! When we started closing up shop around 9:00 am, the count was close to 700 cyclists passing by, with 373 stopping for goodies.

I’m always happy to get up early as long as there is a sunny day and a bike ride ahead of me, but it was particularly energizing to be out and about with so many other cyclists. Everyone had smiles on their faces, and it was clear that it was a special day for those of us who love to ride. I personally enjoyed the opportunity to talk about bikes and SVBC with everyone who passed through, including Palo Alto mayor Yiaway Yeh, who stopped by on his bike to read a proclamation about Bike to Work Day.

The end of the day brought us to the Bike Away From Work Bash. There was live music, great art, good food, and lots of conversation- what more can you ask for? All in all, it was a Bike to Work Day to remember.
