BART construction affects Kato Road access in Fremont

BART Silicon Valley is advising folks who drive or bike through Fremont to take extra caution on Kato Road as Valley Transit Authority (VTA) begins construction on the Kato Road Grade Separation Project in the southern end of town.

One lane in each direction will be closed on Kato, leaving no room for a dedicated bike lane. Traffic controls are dictating a reduced speed of 25 miles per hour, and "Share the Road" signs are being used to remind drivers that cyclists are allowed use of the full lane.

An additional traffic shift is planned to occur in two to three months, and a full closure of Kato Road between Warm Springs Boulevard and Milmont Drive will occur for nine months later this spring. Construction is anticipated to be complete, and Kato Road to reopen, in winter 2013.
