Safe Routes to School comes to Ravenswood City School District

SVBC is happy to announce that we are beginning work on a Safe Routes to School program in Ravenswood City School District, which includes schools from both East Palo Alto and Menlo Park in San Mateo County. The San Mateo County Office of Education was inspired in part by the September death of a six-year-old girl in a crosswalk in East Palo Alto and has planned a two-year program to make walking and biking to school safe for Ravenswood students.

SVBC will be educating and training parents, facilitating focus groups at schools, and conducting surveys so that the project starts off addressing obstacles that the community is presently concerned with. We will create a communications campaign so that parents and schools get involved in the project. With Alta Planning + Design, we will coordinate walk and bike audits at the district's schools.

We are excited to participate in a program that will not only improve safety for kids that currently walk and bike, but also encourage more students to get to school using people power.
