Hit-and-run leaves San José cyclist in critical condition
San José resident David Garcia was placed in a medically induced coma on Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike near the intersection of Crucero Drive and Dubert Lane. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after dragging Garcia several feet. Fortunately, witnesses to the incident got Garcia out of the street and called for an ambulance as the vehicle fled south.
From the Mercury-News:
Josette Garcia said her brother was bicycling, with no helmet, about 9:30 am., home after a trip to Jack's Liquor Store, where his parents had asked him to buy lottery tickets. Apparently, people from an apartment complex near McLaughlin Avenue saw what happened, Jesette Garcia said, and puller her brother out of the street.
San José Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to contact the Traffic Investigation Unit at (408) 277-4654.
Our best goes out to David and his family. We hope that he recovers from this terrible incident and that the vehicle driver is found and brought to justice.
