San José trails - award and update

The latest on San José trails, brought to you by Yves Zsutty, Program Manager of the Trail Network with the City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services:

Award

An Award of Merit has been presented to the City of San Jose for development of Albertson Parkway. Staff will be attending the 25th Annual Trails and Greenways Conference to receive the award. The 0.5 mile trail significantly improved upon an under-developed and substandard trail within a utility corridor. Flowering trees and shrubs, interpretive signs and links to the County’s Santa Teresa Park make this trail a popular walking destination for community members. Construction
Construction is underway along the Guadalupe River to extend the trail system southward from Woz Way to Virginia Street. The 0.6 mile paved trail along the west bank of the river will greatly improve access for Washington and Greater Gardner residents and offer a link to the Viriginia Street light rail station. The Army Corps of Engineers and the Santa Clara Valley Water District will commence construction of flood protection improvements along the east bank of the river this summer. Access to the Guadalupe River Trail from Grant Street will be unavailable during construction.

Development of the Lower Silver Creek Trail is underway in east San Jose, along Silverstone Place, between Foxdale Drive and Ocala Avenue. The trail project is being developed within a utility corridor and include flowering trees and shrubs.
