Congresswoman Jackie Speier honors San Mateo County Streets Alive
While making the trip to Capitol Hill this month, a group of us called on Congresswoman Jackie Speier, who represents the 12th District. District 12 encompasses the western portions of San Francisco and both the coast and bay side areas of San Mateo county, as far south as Redwood City. While advocating for cycling related bills such as Safe Routes to School and the Active Community Transportation Act, we also asked for her support for San Mateo County's Streets Alive event on April 11th.
Thanks to the hard work of Supervisor Carole Groom we are pleased to co-sponsor this event linking active lifestyles to public health. This is a monumental feat when you consider the many cities and communities involved in San Mateo County along with the need to be mindful of city budgets. Inviting residents to use streets and trails is a very cost effective way to get people active along with creating communities among family, friends, and neighbors.
Along with individual city support we are pleased that Rep. Jackie Speier also stands behind the event by issuing a Congressional Record in honor of Streets Alive. Representative Speier understands the link among our nation's decreasing level of physical activity and the impact on public health, especially with regards to obesity.
So, save the date April 11th, and join the rest of your neighbors and get out in your community. You never know just who you might meet.
