Mountain View Local Team

Learn about the team’s priorities and see where you can contribute

Do you want to learn how you can add more bicycle lanes in your neighborhood? Or push your elected officials to prioritize calmer and safer streets for pedestrians and bicyclists? Join the SVBC Mountain View Local Team and become involved in shaping the future of transportation in Mountain View!

SVBC’s local team structure relies on super volunteers to bring people together, leveraging experiences and knowledge of their respective communities to identify ways to work together and create safer communities for all.

No experience necessary. No big time commitment. We can train you on the basics of developing an advocacy campaign in our Advocacy 101 course.

The Mountain View Local Team meets via Zoom every third Wednesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can begin receiving updates on our events, campaigns, and meetings by joining the online discussion through our Google group.

Not sure how much time you can contribute? We understand life happens and keeps us all very busy. Our team leads will do their best to find a role that meets your goals and availability!

The Local Team’s Plans to Improve Safety and Bicycle Infrastructure

The Mountain View Team has an extensive list of goals and campaigns for 2023 that you can review here.

However, with limited capacity, the team can only prioritize as many projects as our super volunteers can handle. We strongly encourage you to join and effectively advocate for improved bicycle infrastructure and the many Capital Improvement Program projects the city is developing.

The following is a short list of some of the campaigns and improvements the Mountain View Local Team has prioritized this year.

  • Castro Street, Transit Center & Grade Separation Undercrossing Project

  • Bernardo Undercrossing

  • Evelyn Avenue Bikeways Project

  • Support for Precise Plan Projects

  • Stevens Creek and Permanente Creek Trails

  • Active Transportation Plan (ATP)

  • Vision Zero and Local Road Safety Plan

  • Safe Routes to School

  • Advocate for improved bicycle infrastructure in and around private developments

Meet the Local Team Leader

Bruce England currently serves as the team leader for the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition Mountain View team and has been involved with the coalition for several years. Although his professional work is focused on Smart City and Internet of Things Technology, he has dedicated his post-retirement to community organizing. In addition to his role with SVBC, he is also the co-founder and manager of the Mountain View Coalition for Sustainable Planning (MVCSP), GreenSpacesMV, and a Mountain View progressives communications group.

He’s previously serves as an appointed member of the City of Mountain View Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (charing across three annual cycles), served as vice president of the California Station HOA and was on the first City of Mountain View Mountain View Environmental Sustainability Task Force in the transportation working group. When it's time for a break, Bruce likes to read, watch films, exercise, spend time with his son and two grand daughters, or have meaningful conversations with new people.
