North Fair Oaks: Serving our Older Adult Community

Just as there are many different types of bicycles, there are many different types of people who ride – and each group has their own take on bicycling. SVBC is excited to meet with North Fair Oaks’ older adult community on August 16 to discuss safe biking and offer tips on how to use the bicycle for basic transportation. After all, one is never too advanced in age to enjoy riding! In partnership with the Siena Youth Center’s Director, Rafael Avendano, this workshop – presented in both English and Spanish - will cover road rules and safety tips with an eye towards topics of interest to the older adult community. This includes feeling stable on a bike, protecting joints, and adjusting the level of exertion to accommodate health issues. Participants will also learn about the many ways that biking helps promote brain health as well as improve the immune system.Of course, we all know how biking improves our mood, and participants will get hands-on experience with this by having the chance to test ride a 3-wheeled bike, courtesy of the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability. Are you interested in attending, or know someone who would? Come check it out – it’s free! The workshop will be held on Thursday, August 16 from 4:30 – 6pm at the Siena Youth Center (2625 Marlborough Avenue, Redwood City).
