Thousands descend on downtown San José during Mattson Technology ViaVelo
The crowds brought downtown to life on a Saturday afternoon.
The Mattson Technology ViaVelo was a fun day in the sun for everyone. An estimated 3-5 thousand people came out to downtown San José on Saturday to enjoy the thrill of car-free streets.
County Supervisor Ken Yeager joined in the fun.
The event was the perfect Saturday activity for families.
The Santa Clara County Parks Department wowed the crowds with their display of local fauna.
The Mercury News phrased it nicely:
For much of a sunny blue Saturday, a swath of downtown San Jose was all about the bike — and about the skateboard, the foot and other nonmotorized forms of transportation.
There were families on recumbent bikes tugging kids and dogs in trailers behind them; a group of Mormon missionaries in pressed white shirts riding bikes with bright green, blue and orange rims; and daily bike commuters proudly astride their dusty workhorses.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered, worked, or just came out and had fun!
