I love New York and New York loves bikes - New Streetfilms video

When we talk about progressive bike cities; places such as Portland, Davis, Montreal, and Seattle always come to mind; but New York, yes New York has made some amazing progress in the last three years.

Whether its the new pedestrian plazas in Madison Square and on Broadway Boulevard, or Sunday Streets events during the summer, the city has made some creative and positive changes to the New York streetscape.

Under the leadership of the New York Department of Transportation's Janette Sadik-Khan (more on her in later posts), New York now provides a model for other U.S. cities hoping to create more livable cities.

What do you think? How can we move beyond white lines as the only solution to bike safety? Would you like to see spearated bike lanes like those in Montreal, a bike specific traffic signal in as seen in Portland, or colored bike lanes such as on 42nd Street and Broadway in New York? These improvements have all been built elsewhere. We can build them here as well.
