Another wins. Los Gatos Council approved bike/ped bridge work over Highway 17

Good News! On December 1st, the Los Gatos council took the next step forward for a new bike and pedestrian bridge over highway 17 at Blossom Hill Rd. It authorized the town manager to negotiate and execute an agreement to start design, accept a 2016 Measure B grant for $2.7M, and budgeted town funds of $946K toward design.   Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition members helped to advance this bridge. We emailed our members in Los Gatos and encouraged them to write to the City Council and you did.  A big 'Thank you' to those of you who contacted the council to support this project!  The new Bike/Ped bridge will be located parallel to the Blossom Hill Rd auto bridge over Highway 17 on its south side.  The existing bridge is too narrow to properly protect the high volume of students who ride a bike or walk to and from Van Meter Elementary and Fisher Middle School.  The new bridge will create a much safer and low stress east-west bicycling and walking connection in Los Gatos.  Preliminary design will start in April 2021 and the bridge architecture is expected to be selected in between July and October of 2021.  The council also approved a community engagement plan for the bridge design.   For more information, See the project page The Town of Los Gatos encourages interested parties to subscribe to the “NOTIFY ME” service.
