Viva CalleSJ May 2019 Recap

If it’s raining and pouring, what else is there to do but hop on a bike and ride? That was the mindset of the thousands of participants in this May’s Viva CalleSJ. While rain poured and thunder clapped, participants could still be found out and about enjoying the open street event. For those who are unfamiliar, Viva CalleSJ is the City of San Jose’s annual open streets event, where about six miles of road are opened up to pedestrians, bicyclists, and skaters for the day. 2019 is the first year to feature two Viva CalleSJ events! On May 19, SVBC set up just outside of Emma Prusch Park with an info booth and a bike rodeo. In the breaks between the rain, plenty of kids zig-zagged their way through cones and learned basic bike safety.Even when it was raining (save for a short thunder storm that sent people running for cover!) there were still bicyclists abound to prove that bicycling can be an all-weather sport. We’re looking forward to the next Viva CalleSJ on September 22, which will be even bigger and better than the May event. Follow VivaCalleSJ on Twitter to get updates!Thank you to everyone who rode the streets with us. We’ll see you again in fall!
