Pedal Power

We all know how powerful bicycles are. They’re powerful tools for advocacy, transportation, and good old-fashioned fun. Did you know they can also be used to power a concert? That’s right. Power from 12 stationary bikes will be used to power a Rupa & the April Fishes concert on Wednesday, September 12, to close out the Global Climate Summit at San Jose City Hall. We need your help to keep the concert running. In collaboration with the San José Mayor’s Office and Rock the Bike, San Jose Jazz presents indie/world music band Rupa & the April Fishes on the SJZ Boom Box for a free concert powered entirely by bicycles pedaled by volunteers from the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and San Jose Bike Party. A sell-out smash at the 2012 SJZ Winter Fest, Rupa & the April Fishes’ high-energy shows draw from a decade of concerts, street parties, festivals and symphonic concerts on four continents. The event is the highlight of the Green Arts Festival, part of the City of San José’s programming affiliated with the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, September 12–14. Concert goers can also take in San José Library’s Maker(Space)Ship; presentations by Ford GoBike, Lime and San Jose Museum of Art; learn about San José’s climate action plan and the launch of the San José Clean Energy initiative and enjoy food and drink from some of San José’s best food trucks. We need your help to power the concert! Sign up here to pedal for half an hour or more and listen to great music with your fellow bike advocates. On your way, keep an eye out for signs of the Better BikewaySJ project as construction crews revamp the streets downtown. We’ll see you there!
