Campbell bike and ped projects update

Thanks to Laura Smith for keeping us updated on the good work of the Campbell Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)!Campbell Avenue Portals Project: The bid for this project went out in July and was awarded to contractor Ghilotti. Work is to begin this October and last about one year. When finished, there will be portals for walking on a sidewalk under the Highway 17 overcrossing at Campbell Avenue. It has been a long time dream of BPAC to see this project to fruition. It makes walking and cycling safer and will be a gateway to downtown Campbell.Hacienda Avenue Improvement Project: This project is also with Ghilotti construction. The project was to begin in August but was delayed because PG&E took longer than anticipated. It began in September and hopefully will move forward with no more delays.Virginia Avenue Sidewalk Project: These sidewalks are planned for Virginia Avenue north of Hacienda. Project announcements went out to the property owners and the design process is underway. This improvement will make getting to school safer for the kids in the area.Other Projects: Harriet/McCoy/San Tomas Aquino Signalization Project got funding to place a light at San Tomas Aquino where the streets change names at McCoy. This is a busy intersection with lots of kids crossing to get to school.Traffic Safe Communities Network (Safe Routes to School) is promoting a "Walk and Roll" program to encourage kids to walk or ride their bikes to school.
