New Mobility
With technology changing every day, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is constantly on our toes; we need to be flexible to not only know what is coming, but also understand, analyze, and accommodate these changes for the progress of our community. Some of the new transportation technologies include autonomous vehicles, bike share, the various new personal transportation devices (PTD) like e-scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards, and so on. Who had thought that any of these would be used as a means of transportation, and here they are today – thousands of electric bikes and scooters are all around the Bay Area. These are not just affordable and easy to use, but are also environmentally friendly. PTDs make transportation easier by providing first and last mile connectivity and options for short trips.
We at SVBC, support the growth of such innovations. We believe that these services need to be provided in ways that protect safety and user privacy and that provide data to the public to facilitate planning and coordination of mobility. The need today is not just perfection, but to “test and learn” and evolve over time.
