SVBC local teams took a new direction starting this December with our new Biketivist Forum and Local Team model. Each team set-up goals for the year 2021 and are currently working on campaign plans with strategies and tactics to achieve those goals! Many teams adopted goals in Dec-Jan and a few teams have already achieved wins as well! Read along to learn more about what each team aspires and click here to get involved. 

North SMC Team Goals

  • Vision Zero: Get cities (starting with SSF) to adopt a policy - WIN! 

  • Safe Routes to School: Get cities and school districts (starting with SSF) to pursue city/district-wide programs

  • Recruitment: Expand local team to represent all 5 jurisdictions

  • Bike parking: Get up to 5 businesses (shopping centers) to install bike secure bike parking\

San Mateo City Team Goals

  • Push for reducing speeds to 15mph near schools - Sign the petition

  • Continue to push for smart, inexpensive bike improvements when streets are re-paved. 

  • Continue to work on North/South Delaware route

  • Continue to work with city staff member Sue Ellen and the City of San Mateo by following along on the projects listed in the Bicycle Master Plan. 

  • Improve bike culture- more social media presence and work on some bike rides once Covid improves more. 

Palo Alto Team Goals

  • Influence budget process by advocating fo increased active transportation spending

  • Push city to resume funding and implementation of the bike boulevard projects.

  • Work with CalTrans and the city to get best possible outcome for cyclists in the El Camino Real repaving project

  • Participate in CalTrain crossing grade separation project to ensure that whichever options are chosen, pedestrian and bicycle access and safety are improved over the current situation.

  • Increase local team membership and improve social media and web presence in 2021.

  • Bring back Bike Palo Alto event in fall of this year, after Covid cancellation in 2020

  • Get the Council to adopt a Vision Zero policy: Make transportation safe for everyone.

  • Support Safe Routes to School: Encourage kids to bike to school, and allow them to do so safely.

Mountain View Team Goals

  • ATP + AccessMV: Get MV to do  the Bicycle Transportation Plan updatemoved up to FY21/22  in conjunction with the Pedestrian Master Plan (which is in the FY21/22 budgetfor this year) as an Active Transportation Plan. 

  • Vision Zero Plan: advocate for the Vision Zero Policy to be implemented in a Plan.

  • (Green) Complete Streets: get green complete streets priorities in AccessMV plan.

  • Ensure current projects in the capital budget plans are prioritized and not dropped.

Sunnyvale Team Goals

  • Add "Implement the ATP" to the Council Strategic Policy Priorities list - WIN!

  • Convince City Council to approve Tasman Dr study issue and Evelyn study issue. This goal passed a recent critical milestone by being ranked #1 in public works dept study issues for the upcoming budget. - WIN! 

  • Ensure that protected bikeways are included in the ECR Sunnyvale SP in 2021

  • Ensure that significant funds are dedicated to building the ATP ($50M in the next five years)

  • 20 new team members by end of 2021

  • Encourage 10 businesses to request bike rack via Sunnyvale's Bike Rack Installation program 

  • Submit a Study issue to allow bringing bikes inside buildings

  • 4 free bike repair clinics by end of 2021

Santa Clara Team Goals

  • Grow team by 20 new people by end of year

  • Get priority projects in the Bike Plan implemented within 5 years

  • Have Santa Clara adopt a Vision Zero Policy in FY21/22

  • Have Santa Clara adopt a Vision Zero Plan in FY22/23

  • Update Bicycle Parking policy

  • Meet with Santa Clara City staff to establish a more collaborative relationship

San José Team Goals

  • Secure full funding for the Better Bike Plan in FY '21-'22

  • Grow team to 20 active members
