The C in SVBC stands for Coalition, which Merriam-Webster defines as an “alliance of distinct parties, persons, or states for joint action.” This means that, though we may be lovers of bikes for different reasons – health, recreation, competition, or transportation – we come together to form SVBC and face challenges together.
There are a number of ways you can be an active part of our coalition: Volunteer to valet park bicycles or teach children bike safety skills; join one of our Local Teams or speak in favor of a cycling project at a city council meeting; support the work of SVBC staff by donating time or funds. There’s a role for everyone – we just need you to get involved!
It’s about more than fundraising: becoming an SVBC member gives our organization greater clout as we work with governments to improve and expand bicycle facilities where you live.
Our projects depend on the dedication of our wonderful team of volunteers. There are opportunities to join us year-round at our Bicycle Exchange, Bike Valet Parking events, Bike to Work Day activities, special events, or here in our office. Use the contact form below if you would like to hear from our volunteer coordinator.
Join one of our local teams in San José, Palo Alto, or San Mateo County to play an active role the each community’s bike culture and advocacy movement. These teams play a critical role in keeping SVBC staff and board members in-the-know about bike advocacy issues throughout our area.
The Bicycle Exchange is a great way to immerse yourself in local bike culture while making a huge difference in the lives of children. The Exchange takes in gently used bicycles, restores them, and donates them to families and children in need through partner charity organizations. Join us at one of our bi-monthly workdays or schedule a team-building day for your office!
