Bikes for Comfort

Generally when we talk about bikes and comfort, we're talking about sizing, finding the right bike for your needs, etc. While proper bike fit is important, the context today is more about what a bicycle can bring to you in times of stress and anxiety. In these days of uncertainty, SVBC has found it helpful to take stock of the resources we have and the things we can do, and to be grateful and kind. If you're feeling restless, overwhelmed, or maybe have kids who need to burn off some energy, here are some things to consider.

Get Your Bike Ride Ready

If your bike is home to spidery cobwebs or buried in storage, be sure to check it over before you ride. Most importantly, remember the ABC check: the tires (air), brakes, and chain to be sure everything is running smoothly. Learn more about quick and easy maintenance with this handy video from the Active Transportation Alliance. Additionally, here is a link to more videos that will help you understand how to ride safely and comfortably. League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling Videos

Go For a Ride

If you haven't ridden in a while, perhaps you're wondering where to go. These days we're encouraged to stay closer to home so start with exploring your neighborhood! Take a slow ride and enjoy the sights and sounds of your community. Be sure to look for wildflowers and vibrant plants springing up. Use SVBC's maps page to find roads with bike-friendly features, as well as off-street paths.

Share Ride Pictures to #joyridesv

Take a ride, snap a picture, and upload it to social media. We (and others) would love to see what you're seeing! We will randomly select participants to win gift cards to Sports Basement. Participants must register on Eventbrite and upload photos on facebook/instagram and tag: #joyridesv and @bikesiliconvalley to be eligible to win. Register here: #joyridesv

We are not encouraging this to be a group ride activity. This is intended to be a solo activity or with others who part of your household.

Other Bike Fun

If you can't get out for a ride, there are other ways you can keep your bike passion alive. Draw or paint a picture of your bike. Maybe your bike is worthy of a beautiful haiku? Now is a great time to create that masterpiece or discover a hidden talent!
