Meeting my membership team

SVBC Membership Advisory Committee

Advocacy has many different faces. It also works in many different ways. Tonight, it happened to coalesce around a single slice of pizza. It was Hawaiian, in case you were wondering.

As the new Membership Coordinator for SVBC, I met my team for the first time at a local bar and restaurant in downtown Mountain View. These advocates and ambassadors of the Coalition have lead the way to doubling our numbers, improving our clout, and establishing SVBC as a force to be reckoned with in the Bay Area. I couldn't have asked for a better team.

I am the first Membership Coordinator and the first staff member to have one hundred percent of his time dedicated to this cause. We need to recruit 3,500 new members in the next two years. No one ever said this was going to be easy! I look back at our history and see how far we have come. Bootstrapping - I am familiar with it. From running the organization out of Corinne's house as a one-person show, to a motley crew disguised as business men and women calmly and collectively listening to the voice of our advocates, our agencies, and our community - I believe we will accomplish this lofty membership goal. It's more than a measure of our current strength. It's a way to launch the future success of our organization.
